Polygala is
the dry root of Polygala tenuifolia Willd. or Polygala
sibirica L., a plant of Polygalaceae. The main chemical
components in Polygala are triterpene saponins, the
content of which is between 5% and *4%. Seven kinds of
triterpene saponins have been separated from Polygala
saponins, named Polygala saponins A, B, C, D, E, F, and
G respectively. Among them, there are 5 kinds of
structures that have been determined. Polygala saponin
can be hydrolyzed with alkali to produce polygala
subsaponin (TeChemicalbooknuifolin), and polygala
saponin is hydrolyzed with acid to obtain polygala
saponin (Presenegenin). Polygala also contains a
variety of alkaloids, sugars, and fatty oils. , Resin
and Polygalitol and Tenuidine.
