Manufacture : Parker Model : *5 Spanish Treasure Limited Edition Body & cap material : Sterling silver body and cap Body & cap finish : Sterling silver body and cap with crosshatch cisele design Trim : Gold Nib material : *4kt solid gold Nib size : Medium - #*6 Filling system : Comes with a Parker converter and takes a cartridge Condition : Pen is Like New, MINT condition. The silver body and cap are flawless with no dents, dings, cracks, wear or damage at all. No sign the pen has been used. The section and nib are totally clean and like new. The clip and tassies are totally flawless. Perfect imprint on the cap band. The cap sits nice and tight. The pen is MINT. I do think it may have been dipped. I flushed the converter and section with water and got no ink. When I wiped the section nib end I got a little ink, so likely the pen has been at least dipped, but it is flawless!!! Pen is in original plastic sleeve and comes in original wood box with cloth pouch, two cartridges, nib adjustment tool, Parker *5 booklet and Parker guarantee certificate. T is no outer box sleeve. The box has some light staining on the outside top. The inside of the box cover shows some light discoloration from age. EXCEPTIONAL SET! Age : ***5 Comments : The Bicentennial was issued by Parker in ***5 and was Parker's first limited edition pen and the first limited edition pen of any note from any pen company. Around the cap band is the engraving "STERLING SILVER - SPANISH TREASURE FLEET - ***5" plus the usual Parker logo and "Made in USA." The gold tassie on top of the cap had the mark of the Mint of Mexico , the letter M with a small circle over it. The tassie at the bottom of the barrel is engraved the Eagle of Purity insignia for King Philip V of Spain . is a bit more info on the pen from the web site:
"Released in November ***5, the silver used to make this pen's cap and barrel came from a sunken Spanish galleon in the armada of *1 ships. This ship was carrying gold and silver treasures from the new world back to Spain and King Philip V. After the two groups of ships left Vera Cruz and Cartagena, they gatd in Havana to form an armada and head northward on the gulf stream. Seven days after leaving port, on July *1, ***5, the armada encountered the shrieking high winds and heavy seas of a hurricane. *0 of the *1 ships were driven onto reefs and were sunk off the coast of Florida.
To coin collectors, this group of shipwrecks became known as the ***5 Plate Fleet. The silver was salvaged in ***1 by Mel Fisher who had the backing of investors including Ken Parker. Unfortunately, the retrieved silver coins were beyond recognition as a doubloon, and only had value in its silver content. Intent on seeing his Fisher investment pay off, Parker was struck with the brilliant marketing idea to create a limited edition of the crosshatch Parker *5 using this salvaged silver. He created an entire package to give the pen an exclusive cachet that it uniquely deserved, with a price to match *- at $*5, triple the normal price of the *5."Country: | USA |
