Black Hills' Pacific Northwest Usnea Blend is a wild-crafted blend of Old Man's Beard (usnea) and Witch's Hair (alectoria). Medicinal uses: Herbal anti-biotic, excellent for upper respiratory ailments such as bronchial infections, pneumonia, sore throat, strep throat, sinus infections, tuberculosis; also for urinary tract infections and fungal skin infections including yeast infection, athlete's foot, ringworm. Usnea and alectoria often grow together, sometimes on the same branch of a tree. Combining the similar healing properties of usnea and alectoria creates a broad spectrum anti-microbial blend which includes 'alectosarmentin', an additional anti-microbial isolated from alectoria in a University of Kansas study. Our lichens are dried and suitable for alcohol extracting (not suitable for teas, usnic acid is not water soluble).
